    Lucio Baccaro, Director of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies, was interviewed in the October 13th, 2025 edition of the Público , during his visit to Lisbon for the presentation of the lecture "Comparative Political Economy and the Growth Model Perspective" at the Inau gural Conference of the Master's and Doctoral Programmes in Political Economy 2025/2026 , held at the Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa.   • Opening Session of the Doctoral Programme in Urban Studies, 2025–2026

    Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa will host the Opening Session of the Doctorate in Urban Studies  (a joint programme between Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa and NOVA-FCSH) on October 16th at 18:00 (6:00 p.m.) in Auditorium C1.04, Building 2. The session will feature a presentation by Professor Carlos Fortuna, Emeritus Professor of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Coimbra and Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra, entitled: A Cidade dos Sentidos (The City of Senses).   • DINÂMIA’CET-Iscte in the Cátedra Internacional sobre o Envelhecimento to be presented at UNESCO

    The Cátedra Internacional sobre o Envelhecimento ( International Chair on Ageing) project, developed in collaboration with several francophone and international partners, will be officially presented at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 13 October. The meeting aims to present the foundations and vision of the project, which seeks to promote a scientific and collaborative approach to ageing, bringing together institutions and researchers from various countries, including Portugal, represented by DINÂMIA’CET-Iscte through researcher Filomena Gerardo Ponciano. According to the organisers, the Director of the UNESCO Chairs Programme in France has encouraged the group to move forward with a process of labellization  (official recognition), based on the federative nature of the project, led by the International SIAGE Chair in partnership with the REIACTIS network. The project aims to consolidate an active international research network dedicated to ageing-related issues, strengthening scientific cooperation and the exchange of knowledge across different cultural and academic contexts. The meeting with UNESCO will take place on 13 October at 2:00 p.m. (Paris time).

  • OPEN CALL FOR ONE (1) MASTER'S GRANT

    Open call for one (1) Research Grant (BI_06_2025) as part of the Scientific Research project titled "Hyping Agriculture and Transit (HAT) in 15-minute Cities (15mC) – Food-growing public transport-orientated communities driving urban transitions as green Proximity Orientated Developments (PODs)". This project is funded by national funds through the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT)/ Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, with the reference DUT/0006/2023, and is being carried out at DINÂMIA’CET-Iscte – Centre for Socioeconomic and Territorial Change Studies, of the University Institute of Lisbon (Iscte), under the following conditions: Scientific Area: Architecture and Urbanism. Grant Type: Research Grant (Master's BI). Grant Duration: The grant will have a duration of 6 months, with a planned start date of November 1, 2025, and may be renewable during the project's execution.   • IST 2025 Kicks Off in Lisbon with Global Experts on Sustainability

    Over 500 participants, from more than 50 countries, are expected at the 16th International Sustainability Transitions (IST) Conference  which will take place from 24–26 June 2025 in Lisbon, Portugal. Hosted by DINÂMIA’CET-Iscte, the event is the flagship scientific conference of the Sustainability Transitions Research Network (STRN), bringing together leading international researchers and practitioners to explore the “Tensions and Trade-Offs in Structural Changes for Sustainability Transitions.” Highlights include a keynote address by Nebojsa Nakicenovic (Deputy Chair of the European Commission’s Group of Chief Scientific Advisors) on Tuesday (11:00-12:30), a plenary debate panel on “Resilience and the Future: Sustainable Transition Between Crises and Opportunities”  with Frank Geels (University of Manchester), Ana Fontoura Gouveia (Banco de Portugal) and Diana Ürge-Vorsatz (IPCC Vice-Chair) on Wednesday (9:00–10:30), and a plenary on “Transition Policy and Role of Transition Research”  on Thursday (11:00–12:30), chaired by Florian Kern with policy experts Myriam Bovéda (European Commission DG Regio), Hans Bruyninckx (European Environmental Agency), Jennifer Hiscock (Natural Resources Canada), and Mapula Tshangela (South Africa’s Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment). All plenary sessions will be streamed live on the DINÂMIA YouTube channel, making the conference’s scientific discussions accessible to a global audience.     The electoral process for choosing the new Board of Directors and Scientific Committee of DINÂMIA’CET-Iscte for the 2025 to 2028 term will begin on July 7, 2025, at 2:30 PM, in Auditorium A306 of Building 4. The session will continue until 5:30 PM on the same day and will resume on July 8, 2025, in room A003 of Building 4, from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, to ensure the participation of all members of the Center during this period. The lists of names to be voted on will be distributed via email on July 3, 2025, by 5:00 PM . There will be two ballots: one for the election of the Director, and one for the election of the Scientific Committee. Each participant in the Scientific Council will vote for one of the names on the ballot for the position of Director. Each participant in the Scientific Council can select up to four names from the ballot for the composition of the Scientific Committee.   • Scholarships for the PhD Program in Political Economy, 2025/2026

    Candidates enrolled and registered in the interdisciplinary PhD Program in Political Economy for the 2025/2026 academic year can apply for research scholarships granted by Iscte: Merit Scholarships  – 3 scholarships available; Annual Tuition Fee Waivers  – 3 scholarships available. The different types of scholarships are intended to support the completion of work leading to a doctoral degree by developing the scientific and pedagogical skills of the PhD students. Students who wish to obtain a scholarship must submit the following mandatory documentation: a) Completion of the specific form, available on the Iscte Recruitment page ( https://recrutamento.iscte-iul.pt ); b) A research project proposal, which includes a state of the art and a development and execution plan, with a clear statement of objectives and motivation, following a structure similar to that used for FCT national PhD scholarship applications; c) A minimum of two letters of recommendation from career academics and/or researchers who can attest to the interest and scientific contribution of the proposed project; d) A letter of motivation, in which you must objectively explain the reasons for the scholarship application, including: i. Your availability for full-time dedication to the development of your doctorate; ii. The motivation behind pursuing the doctorate, indicating whether this fits within a perspective of professional enhancement or integration into an academic career; iii. Any other elements you consider relevant for the evaluation of the application, and that can demonstrate that you have the appropriate conditions to successfully complete the proposed project. The different types of scholarships aim to support the completion of work leading to a doctoral degree by developing the scientific and pedagogical skills of the PhD students. Students who wish to obtain one of the four available scholarships within the PhD Program in Urban Studies must submit the following mandatory documentation: a) Completion of the specific form (application form), available on the Iscte Recruitment page ( https://recrutamento.iscte-iul.pt ); b) A research project proposal, which includes a state of the art and a development and execution plan, with a clear statement of objectives and motivation, following a structure similar to that used for FCT national PhD scholarship applications; c) A minimum of two letters of recommendation from career academics and/or researchers who can attest to the interest and scientific contribution of the proposed project (in the case of the merit scholarship application, at least one of the letters must be from a career academic or researcher, and the second can be from a professional with recognized experience in the field of the doctorate to which the student is applying for the scholarship); d) A letter of motivation, in which you must objectively explain the reasons for the scholarship application, including: i. Your availability for full-time dedication to the development of your doctorate; ii. The motivation behind pursuing the doctorate, indicating whether this fits within a perspective of professional enhancement or integration into an academic career; iii. Any other elements you consider relevant for the evaluation of the application, and that can demonstrate that you have the appropriate conditions to successfully complete the proposed project. As this is a Joint PhD Program, requests for scholarship renewal can only be considered if students are supervised by an Iscte faculty member, are enrolled at Iscte in the academic year in which they request the renewal, and are integrated into an Iscte Research Unit associated with the Doctorate (DINÂMIA’CET, CIES, CRIA).
