Scholarships for the PhD Program in Political Economy, 2025/2026

Candidates enrolled and registered in the interdisciplinary PhD Program in Political Economy for the 2025/2026 academic year can apply for research scholarships granted by Iscte:
Merit Scholarships – 3 scholarships available;
Annual Tuition Fee Waivers – 3 scholarships available.
The different types of scholarships are intended to support the completion of work leading to a doctoral degree by developing the scientific and pedagogical skills of the PhD students.
Students who wish to obtain a scholarship must submit the following mandatory documentation:
a) Completion of the specific form, available on the Iscte Recruitment page (https://recrutamento.iscte-iul.pt);
b) A research project proposal, which includes a state of the art and a development and execution plan, with a clear statement of objectives and motivation, following a structure similar to that used for FCT national PhD scholarship applications;
c) A minimum of two letters of recommendation from career academics and/or researchers who can attest to the interest and scientific contribution of the proposed project;
d) A letter of motivation, in which you must objectively explain the reasons for the scholarship application, including:
i. Your availability for full-time dedication to the development of your doctorate;
ii. The motivation behind pursuing the doctorate, indicating whether this fits within a perspective of professional enhancement or integration into an academic career;
iii. Any other elements you consider relevant for the evaluation of the application, and that can demonstrate that you have the appropriate conditions to successfully complete the proposed project.
