Abstract: We use an original dataset to examine the impact of informal and flexible contractual arrangements on wages of a sample of domestic workers hired by private employers in Portugal. All arrangements should be formal involving declaration of employment relationship to social security authorities. Our results suggest formality benefits workers whether they have stable or flexible contract. However, social and labour market processes help shape and maintain inequality, especially for migrant workers. Specific and general skills are undervalued and are unable to generate rewards. Compensation was identified for contingent work, multiple employers and elderly caregivers but this hides exploitation and insecurity..

Raúl Hestnes Ferreira (Lisbon, 1931) is a Portuguese architect who had the privilege of studying and working with Louis I. Kahn between 1963 and 1965. Light, although an external and contingent element of architecture, is a decisive element in terms of definition and perception. Therefore, four works by each architect are compared and analyzed. The results help to highlight the importance of light and shadow in the determination of architectural spaces and how silence enhances the perception of Hestnes Ferreira and Louis Kahn spaces.
- El Proyecto Troika en Portugal: media, resistencia y vulnerabilidad
Title: Rodrigues, V., Diz, H., Santos, M.J.(2017) El Proyecto Troika en Portugal: media, resistencia y vulnerabilidad, Palabra Clave, 20 (1): 188-212. Research Group: Governance, Economy and Citizenry Date: 2017 Publisher: Palabra Clave Link: http://palabraclave.unisabana.edu.co/index.php/palabraclave/article/view/6073 Publication type: Scientific journal article Research Project: N.A.

Link: https://ciencia.iscte-iul.pt/publications/memory-of-space-and-place---tourism-as-factor-of-life-or-death-of-cities/37937 Publication type: Book chapter Research Project : SFRH/BPD/111869/2015 Abstract: The memory of space and place are reflected in our experience. Tourism is currently an uncontrollable mobility factor - whether human, identities, cultures, meanings, information, finance and objects - that cause changes and changes in space and place. Gaston Bachelard (1964), Edward Casey (2000) as philosophers and phenomenologist have also traced this powerful connection between memory and place. The work of Jane Jacobs (2001) is essential in this reading. Yi-Fu Tuan (2001) had a different approach and suggests that memorable architecture should strengthen our memories, enhance the self, and provide layers of meaning to a space. The purpose of this article is to understanding the spatial relationships and tensions between them, and how tourism can be a factor of life or death in the cities. How dynamics allows us to gain important insights into the processes that shape the spaces and places, without losing the original identity. This article will treat conceptual aspects that relate to the theme, bringing to this context the concepts of space and place.

- The Skills of European ICT Specialists
Title: Sgobbi F. (2017), The Skills of European ICT Specialists, Encyclopedia of Information Science and Technology, 4th edition, M. Khosrow-Pour, n.d., ISBN: 978-152-252-255-3. Date: 2017 Publisher: IGI Global Link: N.A. Publication type: Book chapter Research Project: N.A. Abstract: After a brief survey of the international literature on skill-related issues that may either support or threaten the further development of ICT-based applications this article provides a picture of the state-of-the-art of the professional skills supplied by ICT specialists in 11 EU countries based on data from the OECD Survey of Adult Skills. The first part of the empirical analysis focuses on the skills profile of ICT personnel from EU countries and examines to what extent the higher skills displayed by ICT specialists depend on a different distribution of demographic characteristics and job characteristics compared to the rest of the workforce. The second part of the empirical analysis focuses on the relationship between skills and wages and tests whether employers recognize an occupation-specific wage premium to ICT specialists. The results of the proposed empirical analyses confirm the existence of significant differences between skill profiles and earnings determinants of ICT specialists compared to other workers.
