  • BARÓMETRO III | Barómetro das pessoas em situação vulnerável – Fase III

Research Group Governance, Economy and Citizenry Website: n.a. Presentation: A team has been conducting, since 2011, a longitudinal study, with a qualitative approach – Barometer of People in a Vulnerable Situation – within the framework of the Fight Against Poverty in the City of Lisbon Observatory, promoted by EAPNPortugal. With three sets of interviews it was possible to follow up on the same group of people in a vulnerable situation through time, meeting the research goals, specifically: detecting vulnerability processes concerning different poverty profiles and their repercussions in the life path; analysing individual resources and activation provisions aimed to building economic and living autonomy; and evaluating the impact of socioeconomic, political and institutional dimensions underlying resource production and the opportunities granted to subjects. Interviewee selection criteria were based on two axes: vulnerability profiles that other studies had shown to predominate in the city of Lisbon with a view of grasping the diversity of situations and evaluating the impact of social policies in terms of vulnerability situations characteristics; and the territorial axis, where two areas in Lisbon were identified due to the higher socioeconomic indexes and differing in terms of youth/aging index and type of housing. Given these three axes, a profile distribution was obtained as follows: poor, unemployed workers; female informal caregivers; elders in a vulnerable condition, unable to work due to illness and unaffiliated. Period: 2016 - 2017 Funding Institution: REAPN – Rede Europeia Anti Pobreza Coordination: Sónia Costa DINÂMIA'CET-IUL Team: Marta Santos, Isabel Guerra (consultant) Resources: Updated: 31/01/2018

  • Evaluation of the Microcredit Policy Measure in the Autonomous Region of the Azores

Research Group Cities and Territories Website: n.a. Presentation: Cresaçor (Cooperativa Regional de Economia Solidária, CRL), as Microcredit Agency for the Region of the Azores, developed an evaluation study of the policy measure Microcredit known as Inclusive Entrepreneurship and Microcredit in the Autonomous Region of the Azores. Beyond the evaluation of this policy measure, the study developed also a self-evaluation exercise concerning the role of the Agency in implementing the policy measure. Dinâmia-CET supported this evaluation and self-evaluation exercises. The study showed: some loss of focus in targeting, high dependency on private banking criteria in acessing finance, new businesses highly dependent on past professional experience, low participation of young people without previous professional experience and strong role of informal relations in developing the business activity. The study also showed that the information concerning this policy measure is not widespread among the diferente sectors of government and relevant organizations as well as in the different islands. Concerning policy recommendations the study stressed: distinguishing four phases for implementing the measure (animation, ‘skills balance’, business plan and access to finance), widening support measures to potential mothers facilitating entrepreneurship among women and developing awareness and spreading information about the policy measure among relevant organizations. The sudy also recommended to increase the role of local governments in facilitating formal procedures and access to space. She has studied and researched Reyner Banham, Gyorgy Kepes, Nikolaus Pevsner and Georges Kubler. Summary: This is a time travel, which is also a journey through the deserts of the American Southwest. A trip stems from a research work in architectural history and was the winning proposal of the Fernando Távora Prize. We will follow in the footsteps of artists, architects and art historians, among them the architect Távora himself, who traveled through the American Southwest. The artifacts that populate the history books of art and architecture will be analyzed, but they reveal much information about the history of the United States from the earliest times to the most recent. #Eventos #TOP #CT #PauloTormentaPinto #ElianaSousaSantos

  • Conference + Book Release

Seminar + Book Release A vida entre edifícios | Life Between Buildings Architect Urbanism | Jan Gehl 16 November | 6pm Grande Auditório @ISCTE-IUL Free admission In this first and celebrated work by Jan Gehl, whose first publication dates back to 1971, we are witnessing an attempt to understand how the substance of city life has been mislaid by developments in post-war urban planning. Once the diagnosis is made, the author presents a grammar for the urban design that can make the cities able to receive and to keep the precious life between buildings. Abundantly illustrated, in a simple and accessible language, this work by Jan Gehl leads us to a loss, but also to the awareness of the ample opportunities available to transform the public space into places of encounter, delay and enjoyment. Jan Gehl (1936-) is a Danish architect and urban planner based in Copenhagen. His professional career, as a teacher, consultant and architect, focused on developing and promoting the quality of life of cities through detailed urban design, often with particular attention to the human scale and the changes in urban form. Leaving the limelight to the car, favoring better conditions for pedestrians and cyclists, Gehl's work has been a pioneer in urban planning and responsible for the transformation of numerous public spaces around the world.
