- DOMESTIC WORK | Domestic work and domestic workers: Interdisciplinary and compared perspectives
Research Group Innovation and Labour Website: n.a. Presentation: The Project provided an interdisciplinary and comparative analysis of the phenomenon of domestic work, including some new empirical research. It mainly concerned the nature of the legal regulation of domestic work and domestic workers, contextualized by socio-legal and socio-economic analysis. Its focus is on law and society, including the impact of changes in the law on society, and encompassed both issues arising from domestic work and issues concerning domestic workers. The Project is focused on Portugal, where there has been no study of the legal implications of the nature of domestic work and the employment relationship, the identity of the workers, or the wider impact of the commodification of such domestic work. It will also consider, in a comparison, the United Kingdom, Brazil, India and Mozambique. - RECON | The making of economics in Portugal: a study of Portuguese recent economic research (1980 t
Research Group Governance, Economy and Citizenry Website: n.a. Presentation The history of recent economics in a semiperipheral country like Portugal is important, not only from a national point of view, but as an input for the historiography of economics in general, namely for a better knowledge of the processes of international circulation of economic ideas (assimilation/adaptation/appropriation of ideas originally produced in other spaces) and to check how globalization is having an impact on national production of economic ideas. This project is intended to uncover the main features of the Portuguese economics community and research system, to identify the patterns of evolution of scientific production in economics in Portugal in the recent past and explore the basic processes/drivers underlying those patterns. A particular attention will be given to the processes of internationalization of the Portuguese economics community and scientific production and to how the international diffusion of economic ideas has been occurring in the country. We will look at publications in indexed journals, postgraduate programmes of education in economics and doctoral theses, the evolution of the research lines carried out within the major Portuguese research centres; and conversation, analysis and interpretation of interviews with relevant representatives of the Portuguese economics community. - «A cidade é o habitat da arte»: Street art e a construção do espaço público em Lisboa
Ágata Dourado Sequeira Research Group: Cities and Territories Supervisor(s): João Pedro Nunes Summary This research reveals the mechanisms under which street art is produced in Lisbon, as a form of construction of public space in this specific metropolitan context. Specifically, the objective is to understand how a public space can be constructed through the ways in which it relates to the city and the art it features publicly – particularly, street art, artistic and expressive manifestation of ephemeral nature. Being street art, at the present moment, the object of several distinct interventions in Lisbon, through not only the individual initiative of artists, but also through the programming efforts of associations, projects and the municipality, the hypothesis underlying this research is that the analysis of these contexts of production of street art in this metropolitan ambit allows to reveal not only different forms of conceiving and constructing the public urban space, but also tensions and conflicts about it. Therefore, this dissertation aims to focus on the processes of production of street art in Lisbon, based on a field work that, besides an extensive image and documentation collection, includes also a set of long interviews not only to the artists, to which the street is the main context of their artistic interventions, but to other actors connected to the programming of street art initiatives. Likewise, it will be possible to construct a reflexion about the mechanisms through which street art, as an opportunity these new contexts of production allow, and as specific ambit of creativity, connects with the construction of an artistic career, with the world of contemporary art and its markets.
