The E-Book entitled Metropolitan Contemporary Territories has been released and is available for download
The Doctoral Program Architecture of the Metropolitan Contemporary Territories, in the academic year 2016-2017, carries out its 6th edition. Since 2011, when this cycle of studies was presented to the scientific community, we have received candidates with multiple profiles, from national and foreign schools, transporting to ISCTE-IUL their visions about the territory, filtered by the designs of metropolitanism and Of the present time. These visions have allowed to launch research projects, developed through the disciplinary crossing of architecture and related areas, such as urban planning and development, landscape architecture and art. The focus of this course is the emergent themes resulting from the confrontation between the processes of change brought by the threshold of contemporaneity and the urban and social structures sedimented by the accumulation of long time. In this context the doctoral program currently involves the candidates in research organized around two areas of research - 'cities and territory' and 'digital architecture'. The thesis follow-up seminars referred to in this publication correspond to an initiative to approximate the various works in progress to the scientific research units that host the doctoral program - DINÂMIA'CET-IUL and ISTAR-IUL. In these seminars the candidates had the opportunity to cross the results obtained in the course of their work, with the critical impressions of specialists and researchers assigned to the various thematic lines developed in each research unit. At the end of this process, a public presentation was held on 30 May 2016 at the Centro de Informação Urbana de Lisboa (CIUL), a public presentation of seminars, in the form of a colloquium, open to the scientific community and citizens. In the expectation that these texts presented in CIUL will be based on the various theses in progress, I would like to welcome all those involved in this process, emphasizing the role of Prof. Vasco Rato, for his involvement and dedication to this initiative.
