The seminar, "The Housing Crisis in the Azores,"  will take place in Ponta Delgada on September 10th, 11th, and 12th. The event will include a conference, workshops, and visits. This initiative is the result of a partnership involving the Order of Architects – Regional Section of the Azores (OA.SRAZO), the University of the Azores (through its Center for Humanistic Studies and Interdisciplinary Center for Social Sciences), Novo Dia-Associação para Inclusão Social, Habitat-Açores, and the Nossa Vida, Nossa Casa Cooperative. The event is being promoted as part of the CARE(4)HOUSING project, with funding from the FCT and based at DINAMIA'CET-Iscte. The conference will be divided into two parts. The conference, which will be held on September 11th starting at 2:00 PM, aims to reflect on the historical and political context of the housing problem and issues such as urban planning, land use, and access to housing. “ARQUITECTURA AQUI NA ESCOLA: ONDE ANDOU NA PRIMÁRIA?” DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte will be at NEI2025 – European Researchers' Night with the activity “Arquitectura Aqui na Escola: Onde Andou na Primária?” , organized by researchers  Ana Mehnert Pascoal , Ana Rosado , Catarina Ruivo  e Ricardo Agarez . The activity invites the public to share their memories of an emblematic building: the primary school. Presenting the Arquitectura Aqui  initiative and sharing research methods and fieldwork preparation across the Iberian territory, Google Maps will be used to identify schools, ultimately creating an annotated map. The aim is to foster a conversation, with the option of recording an audio testimony to support the research and the possibility of online publication on the project's platform. The discussion will focus on the role of 20th-century community buildings in the lives of communities, highlighting the role of citizens in academic research and their participation in decisions regarding the future of these buildings, which have been losing their original functions. September 19, 2025 2025 Iscte – Building 4, Auditorium 306 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM Free admission Iscte will host the inaugural conference for its Master's and PhD Programs in Political Economy on September 19 . The event will take place in Auditorium 306 (Building 4), from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. The conference will feature a presentation by Professor Lucio Baccaro , titled " Comparative Political Economy and the Growth Model Perspective ." Professor Lucio Baccaro holds a PhD in Management and Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology  and a PhD in Labor Relations from the University of Pavia . He has been the director of the Max Planck Institute since 2018 and has been an Honorary Professor of Sociology at the University of Geneva  since 2020. Since 2024, he has also held the title of Honorary Professor of Political Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen . His academic career includes stints at institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Case Western Reserve University, and the University of Geneva, as well as a prominent role as a senior researcher at the International Labour Organization (ILO) . Professor Lucio Baccaro is a political economist whose current research focuses on growth models , an innovative approach to analyzing comparative capitalism, of which he is a leading proponent. His research in this area covers topics such as common trends and national specificities in patterns of growth or stagnation, the politics of different growth models, the interaction between national and international economic conditions, and the impact of national models on the possibility of Eurozone reform. Previously, he dedicated himself to the study of the comparative political economy of labor relations and labor markets, as well as the empirical outcomes of deliberative public policy-making processes. This event is a unique opportunity to deepen the academic debate on the contemporary challenges of Political Economy and to learn about the academic and scientific projects that underpin the postgraduate programs.

Pode consultar o programa aqui O projeto Reconstruir a Solidariedade numa Era de Dualização do Emprego  teve como objetivo principal identificar as condições que possibilitam ultrapassar a dualização existente no mercado de trabalho e promover uma maior solidariedade. Nesse âmbito, foram estudadas políticas de âmbito nacional, como reformas à lei laboral, de atualização do salário mínimo, de regularização de vínculos precários na administração pública e de regulação do trabalho de plataforma. Por outro lado, foram também analisadas convenções coletivas de trabalho e foi feito um estudo sobre a precariedade e dualismo no Ensino Superior.  A conferência final do projeto   tem como objetivo principal promover o diálogo entre a investigação científica e os atores políticos que intervêm sobre o domínio da regulação do mercado de trabalho. Nesse âmbito, para além da apresentação dos resultados do projeto, a conferência conta com duas mesas redondas de debate onde intervirão alguns dos principais atores políticos que estiveram envolvidos nas reformas ao mercado de trabalho que foram implementadas em Portugal entre 2015 e 2022.  O projeto adota uma perspetiva comparada entre Portugal e Espanha. O Professor Óscar Molina, da Universidade Autónoma de Barcelona, que faz parte da equipa do projeto, fará uma intervenção sobre os desafios da solidariedade no mercado de trabalho em Espanha. O  Grupo de Investigação A+I , irá promover um evento no Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, no dia 1 de abril de 2025 . O evento inclui o lançamento do livro Colonial and Post-Colonial Landscapes I – Architectures, Cities, Infrastructures in Africa. Coast to Coast Researchers’ Book , uma publicação que reúne os contributos dos investigadores do projeto Coast to Coast (PTDC/ATP-AQI/0742/2014). Seguir-se-á a mesa-redonda Roundtable II: Infraestruturas + Trabalho + Transportes , onde especialistas da área discutirão o impacto das infraestruturas, do trabalho e dos transportes nos contextos colonial e pós-colonial. Paralelamente, será inaugurada a exposição do Grupo de Investigação A+I , apresentando materiais de estudo, resultados e outputs de projetos de investigação, contribuindo para a compreensão de diversos aspetos do ambiente construído em África no contexto do colonialismo português e do pós-colonialismo.

A 3ª edição do Congresso Internacional Colonial and Post-Colonial Landscapes  vai ter lugar em Lisboa, na Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, de 11 a 13 de Fevereiro de 2026. Depois de questionar Arquitectura, Cidades e Infra-estruturas (2019) e Arquitectura, Colonialismo e Guerra (2023) em edições anteriores, a 3ª edição irá cruzar os temas da Arquitectura, Colonialismo e Trabalho . A influência da mão de obra em grande escala na produção da paisagem – incluindo a concepção, construção e manutenção de infra-estruturas e edifícios – não tem sido totalmente explorada no contexto da arquitectura colonial. Este tópico tem implicações significativas não só para a descrição de sociedades passadas, mas sobretudo no estudo e entendimento de comunidades actuais com passados coloniais e a sua relação com a produção do espaço. A ligação entre arquitectura e trabalho nestes contextos oferece uma via promissora e perspectivas diversas para abordar alguns dos desafios com que se deparam as sociedades pós-coloniais. Estes incluem a relação com as tecnologias e os materiais de construção “ocidentais”, a escassez de sistemas de construção tradicionais, a subvalorização destes sistemas na adaptação climática e soluções sustentáveis, e as  persistentes desigualdades raciais e de género em ambientes laborais, sobretudo no trabalho das obras públicas. O congresso acolhe contribuições de diversas origens geográficas, disciplinares e cronológicas para promover um debate amplo e estimulante, cruzando a história da arquitectura colonial, a história social e do trabalho e a tecnologia da construção. The Faculty of Organizational Studies (Slovenia), University College Limburg (Belgium), and Iscte (Portugal) are pleased to invite academics, researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and other stakeholders to submit abstracts for the online Transform International Interdisciplinary Conference “The Future of Human Workforce”, which will take place fully online on March 27, 2025.
