Upcoming screening sessions of the documentary and presentation of the book 'Mulheres, Terra e Revolução', by Rita Calvário and Cecília Honório

DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte is pleased to invite you to the upcoming screening sessions of the documentary and presentation of the book Mulheres, Terra, Revolução (Women, Land, Revolution), authored by Rita Calvário (DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte) and Cecília Honório (CHAM-NOVA FCSH).

Between the large estates of the South and the family farming of the North, rural women organized themselves, stood up to the dictatorship, took part in the Agrarian Reform and transformed their communities — despite having so often been excluded from the historical narrative of the Revolution.

Part of the project Gendered power relations in agriculture: how rural women are facing gender inequality and struggling for more just and sustainable agri-food systems – the case of Portugal, «Mulheres, Terra e Revolução» recovers these memories and restores centrality to the women who fought for land, for their rights and for more dignified lives, playing decisive roles in the revolutionary process.

The documentary brings together testimonies from activists, cooperative members and journalists, revealing paths of resistance, emancipation and the building of popular power at a time when speaking out and taking action was, for many women, a profoundly revolutionary act. The book complements this perspective, analysing continuities, ruptures and the formation of female political identities in the rural world — reminding us that understanding the Revolution implies fully recognising the contribution of these women.

• June 6, at 5:00 PM, Porto: at Espaço Cassandra, alongside the presentation of the homonymous book published by Tinta-da-China, with the directors and authors in attendance.

• June 11, 6:00 PM, Coimbra: at Casa da Esquina, alongside the presentation of the book of the same name published by Tinta-da-China, with the presence of the directors/authors, presented by Pedro Hespanha
