DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte is pleased to invite to the launch of the publication on scientific research in architecture at LNEC, authored by Patrícia Bento d'Almeida (DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte), Teresa Marat-Mendes (DINÂMIA'CET-ISCTE), and Michel Toussaint.
This publication will be presented by Francisco Silva Dias and Helena Roseta, at Espaço Caleidoscópio / Quinta da Fonte do Anjo, on 9 June at 18:30.
With the objective of publicizing the extensive knowledge preserved within LNEC and recognizing the key figures in the history of Portuguese architecture, the present publication is divided into three volumes:
I. Investigar Arquitectura no LNEC: Os primeiros Arquitectos-Investigadores (Researching Architecture at LNEC: The First Architect-Researchers) emphasizes the collaborative effort of various architects and other professionals who, at distinct moments, dedicated themselves to scientific research in Architecture and Urbanism, pioneering research pathways and methodologies.
II. Memórias do LNEC (Memories of LNEC) presents testimonies from several of these architect-researchers, prioritizing first-person accounts, illustrated by technical drawings and documentary photographs that complement the many memories.
III. Práticas de Arquitectura pós-LNEC (Post-LNEC Architectural Practices) presents a contemporary photographic report on six residential neighbourhoods constructed between 1960 and 1970, illustrating some of the lessons learned by each of their authors—architects who were themselves researchers—and reflecting, in practice, the theoretical and scientific foundations that underpinned the respective projects.
This trilogy stands as a valuable documentary and institutional contribution to recognizing the central role of LNEC, alongside its researchers, within the Portuguese architectural landscape.
