DINÂMIA'CET integrated researcher Joana Pestana Lages has just won an ERC Starting Grant worth 1.5 million euros, funded by the European Research Council (ERC). The grant will allow her to develop the HOUSING FREEDOM project over the next five years.
The project, Housing as a Tool for Freedom: A Future Away from Incarceration proposes a paradigm shift: to see housing as a material condition for freedom. Based on an abolitionist approach, the project aims to move beyond punitive systems by designing alternatives that prioritize care, dignity, and reintegration for people leaving prison.
This is the third ERC grant for DINÂMIA'CET, a recognition that reinforces the center's scientific reputation and its standing in the European landscape of research excellence.
