Within the scope of the exhibition Vizinhanças: ausências e presenças em torno da Casa-Museu Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves [Neighbourhoods: absences and presences around the Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves House-Museum], the conference ‘Do Alto das Picoas à Casa Prego: viagens do olhar em torno de uma resistência’ [From the Alto das Picoas to Casa Prego: visual journeys around a resistance], delivered by Paula André (researcher at DINÂMIA’CET-Iscte), will take place on 28 January at 6:30 PM, at El Corte Inglés in Lisbon.

Taking the 19th-century expansion of Lisbon, the urban morphology of the Sítio das Picoas, and a radiographic gaze cross-referenced with different sources (maps, plans, photographs, magazines, newspapers, films) as its starting point, the conference seeks to unveil the palimpsests and the built environments of the site where the House-Studio of the painter José Malhoa was built — the root of the current Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves House-Museum — which, through its resistance, stands as the Casa Prego.

This journey aims to reveal the various layers and lives of certain buildings, associated with different authorships and architectural expressions, regarding the city as a living organism.
