Call for Papers – Algorithmic frictions on platform urbanism: subjects, spaces and platforms

The 'Algorithmic frictions on platform urbanism: subjects, spaces and platforms' is an in-person session that will take place within the RGS-IBG Annual Conference, Birmingham, UK. 26-29 August 2025.

This session explores the concept of algorithmic friction as an analytical tool for platform studies, building on Anna Tsing's (2005) conceptual proposal. Specifically, our aim is to discuss friction, which arises from the tension between the digital and the physical realms, and how it is managed and made meaningful by subjects.

Session Conveners: Nuno Rodrigues (DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte) and Pedro Costa (DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte)
