As Casas são do Povo exhibition opening

The exhibition “As Casas são do Povo” — A portrait of house occupations in Zone I of Chelas, Bairro das Amendoeiras, in Lisbon is the result of the research project Homes2Live | Inhabiting the Revolution: Perspectives on social transformations and spatial productions from occupied houses in Bairro das Amendoeiras, in Lisbon. This project is supported by the competition line “The 25th of April and Portuguese democracy”, an initiative of the Commemorative Commission for the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, in partnership with Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT).

The exhibition will be open from September 15th to 19th 2026, at the headquarters of the Amendoeiras Neighborhood Residents Association (AMBA), a partner in the project.

The choice of this space for the inauguration is related to the purpose of returning, firstly, part of the results produced to the community that was at the center of the research and that collaborated in it. The aim is, therefore, to recognize and value the contribution of the population of Bairro das Amendoeiras to the construction of this work and to the preservation of the memory of the experiences of occupying houses in the revolutionary period.
