Alexandra Saraiva, researcher at DINÂMIA’CET-Iscte, has been invited by the newspaper Público, representing the curatorial team of Habitar Portugal 74|24, to the closing session of the conference ‘Urbe: que caminho para Portugal?’, which will take place on 12 February at the Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB).
This conference brings together researchers, decision-makers, experts, and cultural agents to reflect on the major challenges currently shaping Portuguese cities. Innovation, inclusion, and sustainability—central themes of contemporary debate—currently intersect decisively in the urban space, demanding strategic vision, collective commitment, and informed action.
The coincidence of this conference with the opening of the exhibition ‘Habitar Portugal 74|24’, which is being held the day before, also at the CCB, creates a unique opportunity to articulate public reflection with cultural programming. The exhibition’s curatorial approach—which summons architecture as a political gesture, the persistence of memory, rupture, and the projection of possible futures—dialogues naturally with the conference’s structuring axes, offering a complementary perspective on the transformation of cities and the territory.
In this context, Público expressed a desire for the Habitar Portugal 74|24 curatorial team to be represented at the conference’s closing, in a moment of final synthesis. The objective is to establish a bridge between the urban debate promoted throughout the day and the critical reading the exhibition proposes regarding fifty years of architecture in democracy. The organization believes that this contribution will offer a transversal and integrative view, capable of relating urban thinking, architectural practice, and possible paths for the future of Portuguese cities.
