First approach to the religious spaces of Torrão - 17th February

As part of the transHERITAGE project, the first official fieldworks took place on 17 February.

Researchers Rolando Volzone, Carla Duarte and Laura Pomesano (from DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte | Iscte - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa), together with local resident Luísa Penedo, visited various religious spaces in and around Torrão civil parish.

These included the former convent of São Francisco, the parish church of Nossa Senhora da

Assunção and the church of Misericórdia, located in the centre of the town. Moreover, the

hermitages of Nossa Senhora do Bom Sucesso and the ruins of the hermitages of São Fausto and São João dos Azinhais were visited.

The first approach to the area showed the importance of the partnership with the local

community, which provided access to the buildings. In this regard, a big thank you goes to

Luísa Penedo who tirelessly established the first contacts, to Father Ivan, Mário Fagulha and

Tomás Brito for their support.
